The Last Word
When (and How) It All Comes Together
Don’t you love it when things work out just right? When the universe seems to
converge with your plans and aspirations?
Such moments can vary from something as
simple as getting a choice parking spot at the
grocery store when you’re in a rush to something
as carefully planned as your ASA membership
experience. The ASA board of directors and staff
have been hard at work executing strategic plans,
responding to member needs, and honing your
future as a valued ASA member.
More Value in 2012
On Jan. 3, ASA members received an exciting
e-mail from Richard Wahlquist, ASA president
and chief executive officer. He introduced a new
daily e-newsletter called Staffing Today—an
information-packed resource covering the latest
business, economic, and staffing industry news.
ASA members said they needed this type of
resource—and ASA delivered.
ASA members also communicated the need
for more free professional development—and,
again, ASA delivered. ASAPro Webinars and
more than 150 archived courses are now free as
part of your company’s ASA membership. This
means that staffing professionals who are certified
by ASA and employed by an ASA member firm
receive free continuing education toward renewing
certifications. What better time than now to make
your staffing firm 100% certified?
Let ASA know what you think about these new
and valuable resources—and what else your company needs to enhance the value of your ASA membership—by e-mailing asa@americanstaffing.net.
we’re in the throes of a presidential election year.
What happens in November will have an impact
on the staffing industry. Therefore, it is critical
that your company engages with ASA, contributes
to grassroots efforts, and advocates for the industry.
Be sure to attend the ASA 2012 Staffing Law
Conference in Washington, DC, April 17–18.
As an added bonus for the 2012 election year,
the luncheon speaker is Charlie Cook, the pre-eminent authority on U.S. elections and political trends. Don’t miss the opportunity to get an

Election Year Value
The Iowa caucuses in January seemed to be a
launching pad for increased political news coverage, and now there’s no avoiding the fact that
Value in Planning
Enhancements to ASA membership are part of
the association’s strategic plan to deliver value to
members. Recently, the ASA board of directors
instituted on a new strategic planning schedule
based on a three-year cycle. This ensures that the
immediate past chairman, the current chairman,
and the first vice chairman (or incoming chairman) can maximize their contributions the association while maintaining continuity on various
short- and long-term goals. It’s a straightforward
strategy that ensures results.
And also on the planning front, make sure
you’ve marked your calendar—and planned
your budget—to take a team to Staffing World
2012, Oct. 9–11, in Las Vegas. It promises to be
another can’t-miss event. Go to staffingworld.org
for details. I look forward to seeing you there as
well as in April at the 2012 ASA Staffing Law
Conference in Washington, DC. n
